A G Add9 (Gadd9) chord contains the notes G, B, D, A. It is built from the added 9th formula 1 - 3 - 5 - 9, with G as the root.
Gadd9 adds only the 9th (A) to a plain G major triad — there is no 7th. A G9 chord stacks a flat 7th (F) underneath the 9th, giving it a bluesy, dominant character. Because Gadd9 leaves the 7th out, it stays bright and consonant rather than tense and resolving.
